Know your limit before you hit it: Ask Spotlight Usage

Your team now has a dedicated page to see how many Ask Spotlight questions you've used, how quickly you're going through them, and when your allowance resets.

What’s new

Know your limit before you hit it: Ask Spotlight Usage

A new Usage page in Ask Spotlight gives you a real-time view of your organisation’s question usage. An annual usage bar shows how many questions have been asked, your current pace, a projection of when you’ll reach your limit, and your renewal date.

Daily Limit Indicator

Enforcing the daily limit to keep yourselves on track with your question allowance is optional. It’s turned off by default.

If enabled, you will also see usage reflected right in the Ask Spotlight chat, as you’re asking questions. A small indicator shows your usage at a glance, turning orange as you approach your recommended daily limit. Hover over it any time to see exactly how many questions are left today and for the year, without needing to open the Usage page.

If your question limit is reached, the chat input greys out with an “Ask Spotlight is paused” message. An information bar explains when service will resume, with a link straight to the Usage page for more detail.

Where to find it

The Usage page is available to users with Ask Spotlight access. The View Ask Spotlight Usage permission is on by default for any user with Ask Spotlight enabled.

  1. Open Ask Spotlight in the left-hand sidebar.
  2. Click Usage in the Spotlight navigation.

The usage indicator and any pause notifications show up automatically in the Ask Spotlight chat bar itself.

What this looks like in practice

  • A QA lead sees the orange indicator in the Ask Spotlight chat bar signalling they’re approaching today’s limit, hovers to see “8 questions remaining today / 460 remaining this year,” and saves their remaining questions for priority interactions.
  • An administrator notices usage climbing toward the annual cap, opens the Usage page to see how close they are to the limit, and adjusts access before the limit is hit.

A few things worth knowing

  • Usage data is org-wide. Anyone with the View Ask Spotlight
  • Daily and weekly limits are based on a 5-day working week. A tooltip on the usage bar explains this.
  • All times and dates shown are in Irish time (Europe/Dublin).
  • If the daily limit is hit, Ask Spotlight pauses until the following day. If the annual cap is reached, it pauses until your renewal date. The chat bar and Usage page both explain the current state and when service will resume.
  • The chat bar’s usage indicator is colour-coded, so you always know at a glance how close you are to a limit without needing to open the Usage page.

Your organisation’s question allowance is set based on your contract. Contact your Customer Success contact if you’d like to discuss your current limit.
